LECTURE NOTES THEATER DESIGN

The theater is made of a folding screen (the type used in houses).  It has three screens that fold.  A section is cut out of the middle screen that is 15 inches wide and 10 inches high.  It is replaced by a piece of shower curtain liner (translucent)   To hide residual light a full size (king size) black sheet is used to cover the folding screen.  A hole is cut in it also to match the 15 X 10 inch opening.

The light for this design is 52 inches from the floor and 5 feet 6 inches from the screen.  A 40 watt bulb is used.

The performer is to sit on a milk crate or storage crate.  A normal chair is too high and will get the performers shadow into the screen.

The screen if slightly folded (the outside panels) toward the performer and the middle panel is perpendicular to the audience.
