Teaching Puppetry in a Public High School

The following material was used in teaching Puppetry in Dance and Drama classes at Withrow International High School in Cincinnati, OH. The Workshop consisted of four days with a total of three hours with each class. Dance, Drama and Advanced Drama. The classroom instructor was Ms Ruckle. Workshop was instructed by Jack Bowman. The workshop was performed September 15 - 18, 2003. The project assigned by Ms Ruckle was (for the Dance classes) to make a shadow puppet that used a poem and rhythm to dance, (facial expression was to be emphasized on the shadow puppet) (the poem was to be written by the students) (a background was created by each student). (for the Drama classes) write a script, draw a story board, create a background and the shadow puppet characters that are necessary to present the play. All classes had to present their performance on the shadow screen.
