AVANT-GARDE POETRY

Avant-garde poetry is essentially the advanced guard.  What does this mean?  It means that the poet is going forward beyond where anyone has ever been as a poet.  In doing so he has to have a few mental attributes.  First of all he has to know a lot about poetry, where it came from and why it is.  He has to be able to be creative.  I find more and more people that understand creativity "boldly going where no man has gone before" but are still unable to do it.  This brings up the third attribute.  It takes courage.  Most poets do not have the courage to trust their subconscious and therefore are unable to create truly new poetry.

Here are links to samples:

"Origin of Form"  This first one was published in Nexus magazine (Wright State University Publication) In it you see that none of the conventions of poetry were followed.  http://jackbowman.home.mindspring.com/origin/

"The Story of Poor Robert"  This one is an attempt to create new order and form to poetry.  Since the media has offered us the opportunity to record on the Internet with illustrations, page turning, and links to related material.  It needs explored.  The careers of many (if not most) great artist followed the technological improvements of their day.  Leonardo with the invention of oil paint and Vincent the creation of paint in tubes.  Even very early sculptures changed with the invention of the drill.  It allowed the sculptors to make a hand on a hip with the gap between the torso and inner elbow.  http://www.capjacks.com/robert/robert.htm

"Quantum Poetry"  I created Quantum Poetry in an attempt to not be post modern.  Post Modern poetry  says that all has been done before.  We can only rearrange that which the poets that preceded us have done.  This also applies to the other arts.  http://jackbowman.home.mindspring.com/quantum/index.html

Avant-garde poem that incorporates still images, motion, and words.  "The Wood Nymph" http://www.capjacks.com/nymph/nymph.htm This takes about five seconds to load with DSL or cable.  However, the photo is necessary for the work. (CONTAINS NUDITY)

To Join a Yahoo Avant-garde poetry group:   http://groups.yahoo.com/group/daytonpoets/ There should be a "join this group" in the upper right corner of the page  NOTE:  This site is open to all.  (all new members will be approved) Messages from new members will be moderated for some time.
